True carnage and mayhem. Real chaos.
Brandon Figueroa got the win in some fashion this weekend coming from behind to get the knockout victory.
Becoming a three-weight world champion and bringing the WBA title back to the US but there was some concerning scenes in the ring after the fight:
Some conflicting information on what had gone on there and what was happening post-fight.
Here’s the facts of what we actually know on the above at this point:
- Right after the referee waved it off, Figueroa’s team rushed in to celebrate while Ball was still on the canvas/recovering.
- British super-bantamweight Andrew Cain (who won his own fight earlier on the same card) ran over and tried to kick Figueroa’s physical trainer, MatÃas Erbin.
- It was a clear attempted kick (caught on video) during the chaos in the ring.
- This sparked a brief melee between both camps; fans also threw beer and objects toward the ring.
- Most boxing fans and commentators called it embarrassing and unprofessional — especially from a pro boxer who should know better.
- No serious injuries, no one was seriously hurt, but it was the ugly ending to an otherwise great fight.
