Terence Crawford has trained with Shakur Stevenson many times, sparring with him, advising him and is on hand tonight.
He was at the weigh-ins yesterday and things got heated between him and Lopez’ father and trainer as well.
Crawford thinks although Stevenson is moving up in weight and has a natural weight disadvantage, that Lopez is in trouble tonight.
Speaking on the red carpet after scooping an award Crawford said of Stevenson:
“He is the best boxer in the world, you know, and tomorrow he can show it. A lot of people can say whatever they want—they can say this and say that—but tomorrow, Stevenson will be victorious in tremendous fashion.”
Crawford also spoke about retirement last night regarding his own career.
Here was Crawford getting into it with Lopez senior as well last night.
For those that don’t know who might be new fans to boxing, here’s how Crawford and Stevenson (who fights Lopez tonight) know one another:
Bond started ~2016; Crawford mentored Stevenson post-Olympics as a “big brother.”
They’ve trained/sparred together for years in camps (Colorado and more).
First spar: Crawford dominated so badly it was Stevenson’s worst “whooping” ever.
Mutual help: Stevenson prepped Crawford (e.g., for Spence fight); Crawford keeps Stevenson focused.
Deep friendship: Stevenson calls Crawford the GOAT, supported his retirement, endless love between them.
