Who is favored in Lopez vs. Stevenson in their big fight soon on January 31st this month in boxing? Let’s take a look at that.
For us, there can only be one clear real favorite in this one despite it being a big fight that has captured the attention of many fans in the US and worldwide.
That is Shakur Stevenson.
Stevenson is a cut above him for us both in ability, fight style suiting him in the bout and in current form.
Lopez in recent times has looked a shell of himself and is erratic at times, quick to run to frivolous meaningless quotation books and irrelevant quote of the day snippets to almost try to convince himself he can beat Stevenson.
Who is favored in Lopez vs. Stevenson
He is very wrong for us.
He has fast hands and good boxing ability but he is coming into this not in great form off a very flat fight last year that saw him win on points but not impress boxing fans.
On the other hand he is stepping in their with a level headed, genius, in Stevenson.
When someone has their feet on the ground and is a true genius, you’re in real trouble. That’s what Teofimo Lopez is in for us in this one.
Styles make fights and Stevenson is motivated and injury free and has the defensive ability to counter attack the sometimes overly aggressive Teofimo Lopez, who can leave openings to leave himself open to be hit at times.
Stevenson will have done his homework and research on him and comes into the fight off the back of one of the best wins of his career in 2025 with a shut out over a very dangerous fighter from Mexico, maybe one of Mexico’s best boxers at the moment in fact (Mexican boxing is in a bit of a lull in terms of world champions at the moment, but that won’t last long).
Stevenson has shown an increasing interest in adjusting mid fights too and never relying on the same sequences of attacks, he mixed up his punches well last year and showed a more wide array to his shot selection and even his offensive arsenal.
He can carry this momentum into the bout this month for us.
Here is a look at the undercard for Stevenson vs Lopez as well.
