Davis for most is of course still in the top 10 rankings despite that draw with Lamont Roach in early 2025 last year at this point.
He had an off night against Lamont Roach when they fought and ended up with a draw in the bout, it could have went better
At the end of the day despite some saying Roach one the fight the reality is it was a draw and that should not discount Gervonta Davis from all pound for pound rankings.
People forget some of the brutal brilliant knockouts and wins he’s had his entire career and leading up to before that.
He was meant to fight Jake Paul in an exhibition not too long ago at the end of 2026 but instead Paul had a proper professional boxing match instead with Anthony Joshua all the way up at heavyweight.
If not for that fight with Jake Paul falling through he possibly would have opted to have fought Lamont Roach in the immediate rematch.
Look at it from Davis’ perspective, he was tabled a big money offer to fight Jake Paul, a novice professional, in an exhibition, but it fell through due to some minor outside the ring things for him which are resolved basically, some garbage.
He will be back boxing shortly.
Can Gervonta Davis Overcome 2025 Draw to Reclaim Pound for Pound Status?
So, he needs that big fight whether against the likes of Shakur Stevenson this year or a big rematch with Lamont Roach — to regain that very high pound for pound status.
Of course fighting twice this year against quality opposition would be ideal for ‘Tank’ to achieve this.
You can’t keep a good thing down and boxing is something Gervonta Davis loves and is still a relatively young man.
Again, he had some outside the ring issues last year but that shouldn’t be a problem anymore and will surely look to get back to knocking people out and training to his best in the gym.
For us he currently still sits in the top 10 pound for pound rankings and can climb much higher after drawing with Lamont Roach in early 2025.
Basically, a rematch with Roach is the way to put that right and is the fight everyone in America and around the world wants to see.
If he were to win that rematch clearly on points on by knockout he would surely be back high up in most people’s pound for pound top 10 rankings.
Pound for pound in boxing is so competitive now there really should be more of an emphasis maybe put on a top 20 pound for pound boxing rankings list maybe at this point.
The standard of world champions and contenders is that high internationally now in the entire sport.
Gervonta Davis has some of the fastest hands in boxing still when he is on form and hits harder than anyone in and around those lower weight classes.
Not many are talking about this year either but say if pound for pound Japanese star Naoya Inoue was to defeat Junto Nakatani in their Japanese super fight in May, a possible catchweight superlight between Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis and Naoya ‘The Monster’ Inoue could be looked at for the end of the year.
If Davis were to beat Inoue or someone like Shakur Stevenson he would be catapulted to near the very top of the pound for pound rankings for us, if he beat Lamont Roach or someone of similar note in the same year as well.
He needs a big fight and a clear win this year.
We think he will achieve that.
