Fabio Wardley is now the WBO heavyweight champion after Usyk retired recently and vacated his belts and contenders are forming for the titles.
One of them is the UK’s Moses Itauma but some think it is a bit too early for him at the moment to go anywhere near Usyk. One Duke McKenzie of the UK being one of them.
But time waits for no man and Usyk and even Tyson Fury know that better than anyone, Fury on his way back to boxing this year as well.
Itauma ultimately is one of the most exciting fighters in the entire sport today and can punch, box and is still very young for a professional boxing.
Not least a heavyweight.
We respectfully disagree with McKenzie and other wise experts in boxing to say that we live in a time now for professional boxing where fighters can come back after losses, rebuild and be better than ever.
Is It Too Early To Put Moses Itauma Anywhere Near Oleksandr Usyk?
Protecting that ‘O’ is not the essential marketing ingredient it once was before for building a fighter in professional boxing — although some shady advisers and managers used this to shield fighters from challenging fights to take more per centages from them and so on.
However now times are different.
There’s also Daniel Dubois, Fabio Wardley, Joseph Parker, Hughie Fury, Frank Sanchez and many heavyweights in America he can face as well.
Why not step Itauma up in 2026 and if a title fight comes for him before the end of the year why not let him at it we say.
He is now Sky hype job or anything like that, a quality, fearsome, well school and excellently strong mentally young man and getting better all the time as a fighter.
