It is being spoken about everywhere at the moment that Deontay Wilder the former WBC heavyweight champion is facing Oleksandr Usyk next up.
In a huge fight certainly in terms of notoriety as Wilder is a big name and now Usyk is by this point as well.
Usyk of course is the undisputed heavyweight champion at the moment and has been for a while now, it doesn’t look like anyone will knock him off that for some time as well.
Even young dangerous challengers like Daniel Dubois who was coming off viciously knocking out Anthony Joshua when he fought Usyk in his next fight after that was knocked out himself.
Usyk is showing himself to genuinely only be getting better as a professional boxer and athlete as he gets older and into his 40s — a true all time great already.
Wilder had a comeback fight in 2025 and had some success and won by knockout in a low key bout in the US but one he did well in at the same time.
How Do Usyk and Deontay Wilder Fight Styles Match Up
His trainer basically changed on fight week itself and he got in there and showed some good boxing ability before the knockout came.
Many will say Wilder only has a puncher’s chance and even if that is true, that is one heck of a chance — he’s the biggest punching heavyweight that ever lived.
Even from all the heavyweights in history from Joe Louis, to Muhammad Ali, to Jack Dempsey, to Mike Tyson, to Lennox Lewis, to Rocky Marciano, to Sonny Liston, to George Foreman, to Joe Frazier, to all the legends, not one of them hit as hard as Deontay Wilder.
That’s a fact.
That makes him a problem for anyone but he says now is his prime at the moment this year so maybe he will shock people — there’s no pressure on him of course.
No one will expect him to beat Usyk and Wilder will go into that a heavy underdog — with all the pressure off — he can just enjoy his training and stay injury free.
Style wise he has the reach and is a taller opponent than Usyk but Usyk will look to counter that if he needs to by boxing both on the inside and outside.
Wilder does have a good jab if he wants to use it and maybe that’s what he will do in at least round one.
At some point though, he will look to time one of those bombs and take Usyk out.
