What Is Going On With The WBO – In Danger Of Becoming Obsolete

What Is Going On With The Wbo

The WBO (World Boxing Organization) got the cold shoulder from the King of boxing recently and they have not recovered and may not at all, recover, from it.

When Olesksandr Usyk, the current King of boxing now that Terence Crawford has retired, pound for pound, and heavyweight champion of the world, vacated the WBO heavyweight title recently people took note.

Not just in boxing but beyond.

The WBO at the time made a big deal about thanking Usyk and so on but that was not reciprocated at all from Usyk.

They were all trying to be friends and nice to him now that he’s the King of boxing but he couldn’t care less about them and did nothing of the same kind on social media in retort, just stone cold silence.

Then, Fabio Wardley all of a sudden became the new WBO heavyweight champion of the world by default without even fighting for the belt in the ring.

What Is Going On With The WBO – In Danger Of Becoming Obsolete

Wardley of the UK is a much improved fighter, fighting well at the moment, with some substantial wins recently, but surely he would say he would like to win the belt outright in the ring as well.

The point is, new boxing fans that are flooding into the sport of boxing worldwide are looking at all this and scratching their heads in terms of trying to make sense out of it.

They are thinking how does a boxer become heavyweight champion of the world without even fighting for the belt in the ring?

How does that make sense and how is it possible?

All normal questions for any sports fan to ask of course.

The WBO must make it more clear about mandatory contender fights for champions moving forward or like the WBA, cease to exist or be relevant this year.

Usyk instead has long moved on, citing at the time the Fabio Wardley fight the WBO offered him was simply not of interest.

Instead he will fight Deontay Wilder next up which is a much bigger name and a fight that interests Usyk, as the champion, he calls the shots.
