2026 Boxing News And Views Number 1 Wish For Boxing

What a year 2025 was for the sweet science in professional boxing but this is only the beginning of great times ahead for the sport.

The entire sport internationally no less, worldwide.

This is built on the best fighters fighting the best and that trend has continued right the way through the recent Christmas and will continue on into the new year already.

The fights are coming fast all the time with Shakur Stevenson vs Teofimo Lopez in the early new year and much more already ahead.

The UFC kick off their multi billion dollar streaming deal for UFC and boxing with Zuffa Boxing on January 23th with more to be confirmed shortly.

Turnaround times are short now in boxing due to the online connected world we live in, fights can be made and marketed to the consumer worldwide very quickly now which is advantageous for both organizers, networks and fighters.

We’d like to see more of a few things to build on however for a truly great year in 2026:

  • More of a standby list for injured boxers in high level bouts.
  • This will give fans more of a chance to see the big fights and fighters always fight even if an injury occurs late on. This happens a lot in world championship professional boxing. The standard of the standby list can improve and fighters out of competition should be encouraged to stay in shape and be ready for the call. Not like the brave but out of shape Martin Bakole stepping up in at the last minute very over weight earlier in 2025.

This is the main wish we have for boxing next year as that will give the sport the strength and depth it needs to compete with the NFL, the NBA, UEFA Champions League and the Fifa soccer World Cup.

Sponsors, corporations and governments will love boxing for this if it can do it more and create the ultimately bullet proof show-goes-on boxing schedule at the highest level of the sport every week.

Every month.

Year round.

365 days a year.

There is much happening in boxing in 2026 and we need to bring the sport to new levels and we will.
