Manny ‘Pacman’ Pacquiao is one of boxing’s greatest all time fighters, an eight-division world champion, but there have been some keys to his success over the years.
He does many things well and still does of course as an active prize fighter still, remarkably, at the age of 47, near the highest level of professional boxing and prize fighting.
A one of a kind fighter with speed and brains to burn and footwork, punching power, heart, courage and an excellent engine over the duration of the championship rounds.
One thing over the years that he never gets the credit for though is his technical boxing acumen when it comes to the angles he creates for certain punches, Floyd Mayweather talked about angles for years, and would be in a different ball park than Pacquiao on their use, but Manny Pacquiao is a crafty man with them as well.
Something Manny Pacquiao Does That He Never Gets Credit For
If you look at where his feet are often times to throw his combinations he positions himself with the maximum leverage possible to get his shots off from sometimes very unorthodox angles a lot of times.
He is always looking for the opening Pacquiao, a clever fighter and if he thinks he can come down the middle even with a body shot after parrying something coming his way, he won’t hesitate to forcefully look to create the angle needed for this type of attack by stepping in during live exchanges, typically only if he blocked or parried a punch though.
That big overhand punch he knocked Ricky Hatton out years ago was from a wild angle when you look back on it, he’s always moving around and light on his feet which is key to the way he makes angles.
Maybe a bit different how Mayweather looked to create the openings and angles relative to his body position and where his feet where, Pacquiao maybe did this through a bit more power and force than most.
Pacquiao and Mayweather are thought to be in major discussions to have a rematch next year.
