Some may disagree on how the actual best boxers that ever lived is but the moniker ‘The Greatest’ in all ways still belongs to Muhammad Ali.
Everyone knows of the likes of Ali and Mike Tyson at heavyweight but there are other legends of course.
While some will say ‘Sugar’ Ray Robinson was the best boxer of all time, others might say Muhammad Ali was, most think Ali was the greatest all round fighting man, fighter for fighting heart and fight spirit, that happened to be a boxer, that the sport of boxing had ever seen.
His rope a dope strategy was legendary, one of the greatest things ever seen in the sport for its time, timeless really and a real pioneer of it in the beginning.
It was effective but he used it too long and boxed on longer than he should have.
We suppose when you consider the term ‘The Greatest’ it is almost like Ali’s thing that is trademarked to him, a timeless thing as he just transcended boxing, he was bigger than boxing and sport.
He was bigger than movies and music.
He was boxing in his time and without him when he wasn’t around the sport suffered.
Why Muhammad Ali Is Called The Greatest
Even when he did some years back it was a big void left that really has not been filled, Mike Tyson is the next biggest worldwide personality after him these days, Tyson is a huge hit in recent times with young people in America and around the world.
But Ali stood for that unbreakable spirit that only the greatest fighting men, athletes, businessmen and so on, a very rare few have.
Something within him that words don’t do justice, it can be even described really, it was actually beyond willing to die in the ring in a fight — which he was willing to do by the way.
Many times he put himself on the line and almost tasted death in some of his fights and thereafter.
Sure, he had Parkinson’s later in life but there is no proof that came from boxing either, people are quick to tie that to boxing, not accurate and not the case.
Science has shown that people who develop Parkinson’s over time often develop it anyway and boxing is not a key factor in that.
Ali fought that as well with his typical fight spirit and you’d be crazy to want to fight Ali in anything, really though, the man was relentless beyond the relentlessness even of Michael Jordan.
Jordan was relentless too by Ali just kept coming after people.
A titan.
That’s where the term comes from, ‘The Greatest’.
