There is a balance to everything and professional boxing is no different of course. Styles make fights is an old saying but is very true.
Sometimes styles of fighters gel in the ring and they result in a lot of action but for the more discerning boxing fan who appreciates the sweet science of boxing, where defense, movement, hitting and not getting hit count, this may not always be for all fans where a perceived lack of back and forth toe to toe action occurs.
Some may even call a fighter running in these fights but others will say he’s a slick fighter, where is the balance to be drawn and distinguished between the two?
The Difference Between a Slick Fighter and a Runner
Effective scoring punches landed for us is where that difference occur.
If a boxer is not throwing many punches and simply looking to keep out of harms way, he defeats the purpose of defense boxing or counter punching in the first place.
There is not hit and not get hit – without the first part – hit.
If you look at the likes of Shakur Stevenson, Floyd Mayweather, Terence Crawford or James Toney or other defensively brilliant boxers in recent history, they all land punches on a high per centage of thrown vs connect rate.
They are slick boxers but don’t run in fights as they simply out land their opponents more times than not.
