The Real Reason Most Champions Refuse To Fight Their Mandatory Challengers

Boxing as an industry and product is in changing times at the moment for the better and mandatories have to be addressed soon enough.

With boxing coming back to its hay day soon and shown to the masses again, fans and indeed everyone in boxing wants to see the best fight the best.

It is as simple as that. Champions facing champions and fans knowing who the champion is or the best boxer is in each weight division.

That is what must be done.

Often times in boxing a mandatory challenger is called for a world champion to take on to defend his belt in for a given belt organization.

The Real Reason Most Champions Refuse to Fight Their Mandatory Challengers

Sometimes he might pass on the mandatory and vacate the title for a number of reasons.

There might be a bigger, better, more challenging and more lucrative fight that fans want to see being the main reason of course.

Or the sanctioning fees for what the fight might perceive for a relatively small fight might not add up for him,

The belt organizations are businesses and make money from world title fights or other title fights they do at the end of the day by charging boxers
sanctioning fees.

As boxing comes into a great time soon, as well, unification bouts of titles must surely take precedence where possible over single mandatories.

Where a champion or fighter in a division can prove himself as the best world champion in a given weight class by fighting for more than one belt of the main four (WBC, WBO, IBF and WBA).

Again, helping new fans know who is the best fighter in the weight class more.
