There are many important traits to have in boxing both mentally, technically and physically but maybe some are a little played up too much.
An old saying goes in boxing is that ‘speed kills’.
It can do. Certainly. Speed certainly helps professional boxers.
Whether hand speed to get off blistering combinations on their opponent to land damaging blows.
Or lightning speed of foot to get in and out of range after landing their combinations.
The Most Overrated Trait in Boxing
But what is speed without accuracy and precision in the first place?
Surely precision and accuracy are more important traits than speed as you must hit the target to score effective shots precisely.
As well, speed is nothing without heart, punch resistance or power as well.
What good is speed for a fighter if he can’t take a shot in an exchange in the heat of battle.
Or if he can’t land the speedy combinations if they are not accurate and are just hitting gloves, elbows and arms?
Conor McGregor said it best — precision beats power and accuracy beats speed.
