Boxers are expected to fight hard and put in good fights in today’s times and that is more than appropriate but not the expense of not looking after themselves.
They have to look after themselves as number one first as professional boxing is too difficult and unforgiving a sport not to.
Really though.
It’s that tough a game for them they must be selfish. Really selfish. It is a short career.
We’ve noticed defensive boxing is not always used a lot sometimes in today’s professional boxing. It is used of course but maybe not always as much as it should be.
The likes of Terence Crawford and Shakur Stevenson have really shown excellent defense in recent years, brilliant technicians in the sport. Floyd Mayweather a defensive genius before that.

But they are not alone in that either.
There is many more and when fighters go toe to toe, fans enjoy that and it is great.
But many boxing fans appreciate the sweet science of boxing as well of hitting and not getting hit.
That’s the name of the game.
Look at Oleksandr Usyk at heavyweight, he has made that exciting and seldom gets hit. Hitting and not getting hit can be exciting if precision and accuracy is used.
They trump power and speed often times.
