The two biggest fights in women’s boxing by far unsurprisingly involve the greatest female boxer of all time, Claressa Shields, obviously.
Not just because she is now by far the biggest name in women’s boxing, brings all the money to the sport basically, is the best boxer in their sport on merit out of all the women boxers, is the only woman to be a middleweight and heavyweight champion, there’s more.
Her movie on her life took off more than we even thought, really, it did very well. We thought Rotten Tomatoes who are highly difficult to get good reviews from, when they sang the praises of the movie on her life, we thought, sure, she’s going to make it so big in the years ahead she will be much bigger than just a star in America.
But it did even better than that, Shields is women’s boxing in some ways now.
How A Katie Taylor Fight With Claressa Shields Could Work
But its finding the opponents for her that have one of two things that is the challenge.
- That can genuinely compete and possibly beat her.
- Failing that put her in against very tall large women at heavyweight much bigger than her in height and weight and have the best competition available from that compete against her, to make a compelling story for each heavyweight fight.
The two biggest fights for her are against Muhammad Ali’s daughter, Laila Ali, who is a big name but who has not boxed in years and has been retired.
That is the fight that must and surely will happen at some point.
But the other one is against Ireland’s Katie Taylor.
The problem with it is Taylor would have to step up in weight massively and Claressa Shields would have to come back down to middleweight
or maybe even light-middleweight/super welterweight again.
It would be a huge fight however but would only work if both were willing to compromise on the catch weight.
On another note, here was Claressa Shields’ stance on sex before fights recently.
Big things ahead for Shields again soon.
