Boxing has always produced great characters over the years as well as some of the most fearless, ferocious, hitman-like men at the same time.
Professional boxing maybe has one of the richest history’s of any sport and as the sport returns to its rightful place soon near the top of the pile of all worldwide sport, the characters in it still remain.
Maybe heavyweight Kingpin Oleksandr Usyk of Ukraine is one of the biggest characters, if not for him speaking fluent English sooner in his career, he would be as big as Ali now in terms of fame.
He learned a little English towards the end of his career but his ability far outweighed anything else anyway, he’s one of the best of all time in boxing.
But boxing produces other characters not always undisputed heavyweight or world champions as well.
Derek Chisora And Boxing Burgers
In many different places and at many different levels.
Dave Allen in the UK, a well liked heavyweight that consistently has a big fan base.
Another one of course is Derek ‘Delboy’ Chisora who fought for the world title some years ago against Vitali Klitschko.
He came up short on the night but gave a great account of himself at the time.
He isn’t as wildly and ferociously violent (in boxing and outside of it) as the old days now, more a happy go lucky character who in recent times has appeared ringside at a number of boxing events.
And without warning, entered the ring after a few big name fights recently armed only with many burgers.
Proceeding to hand out burgers straight after some big fights to fighters in the ring recently.
It got a lot of hits the two times he’s done it online now but vintage Chisora.
As boxing comes into changing times technologically and with new companies, governments and platforms, one thing will never change.
The sport will always produce characters.
Of course you can be a character and not have character.
That doesn’t apply to Chisora of course.
By all accounts he will have one last professional boxing match in the ring in 2026.
What a fight career it has been, it’s not over yet either. Roll on.
Here was Chisora’s reaction to the recent Benn vs Eubank Jr 2 fight.
