The Balance Between Delivering Big Fights And Hype In Boxing

Boxing is one of those sports that has the ability to capture the attention of the masses faster than maybe most sports when you look at it.

Out of nowhere, when big fights or fights with compelling story lines are made by well known fighters, people in their millions all around the world tune in.

Look at Floyd Mayweather vs Conor McGregor a few years back, it broke the internet basically with the numbers it did.

Recently a legit big world title fight Canelo Alvarez vs Terence Crawford did well, while not as big numbers as the above, but it got boxing out there more to the general sports fan with its showing on Netflix.

With all the new influencer boxing going on, new tech platforms and companies, new governments coming to boxing, big MMA names and former UFC stars fighting in boxing all of a sudden, there is a balance to be struck.

The Balance Between Delivering Big Fights And Hype In Boxing

The hype has to mostly always live up to the fight event whereby the fan in attendance or watching online is not let down or feels they have been short changed after.

It doesn’t matter if at a better price point online off of pay per view or whatever, the same principle applies.

If you are going down to pure hype road with things like Mayweather vs Tyson exhibitions and Jake Paul vs Anthony Joshua exhibitions and so on, at least make sure there is something very compelling and unique in the story line, or they are at least somewhat on paper at least well matched and somewhat thought to be even.

Or in the case of Joshua vs Jake Paul, whereby the sell there is people want to see Jake Paul get knocked out at this point. He’s gone down the bad guy villain marketing route like Floyd Mayweather did years ago, and it is working well for Paul.

However, the most important thing to remember is that genuine legitimate world championship fights are made between the actual best active boxers in the world at the highest level of the sport.

On a regular basis.

There is room for all of the above but the last part is most important in striking the balance for all demographics of audience base (old, current and new) for the sweet science.

Another great event at the weekend in the UK saw a sold out stadium show once more.
