There is the thing out there sometimes by older people in boxing that many have tried to come to boxing and have failed ahead of TKO, the UFC, Paramount, Netflix and others going all in soon on boxing.
That may have been true previously were boxing fans might tell you years ago some people wasted hundreds of millions of dollars for very little achievement in the sport, maybe billions.
The old adage is that many have tried and many have failed in terms of big companies and new promoters coming to boxing but this is different recently.
First off, Netflix are the world’s number one streaming company, by far, they are not just some company.
What’s more is that they have put on some successful events already and the recent Canelo Alvarez vs Terence Crawford fight went off quite brilliantly.
Then, TKO started by Turki Alalshikh and Dana White, has a one of the best fight promoters in history from the UFC behind it and another man from Saudi Arabia who has basically helped changed the game in boxing in a short time.
White is not just some promoter he knows the fight game and he heads by far the biggest fight promoters in the world, the UFC, and he started in boxing anyway.
There will be no stopping these new big corporations like Paramount and governments in the East getting into big time professional boxing (not just Saudi Arabia either).
They will be putting on some of the best fights that fans want to see, at the end of the day, that is what counts.
People concerned about the Muhammad Ali act being altered should not be, this is simply updating of an old act that went out of date anyway and needed to brought into the 21st century while still always respecting boxing’s old school traditions and values.
What Boxing Must Do To Learn From Previous New Companies Entering The Market
Boxing as a sport at its core will never change but the technological means by which it is consumed, market to the masses, updated for the 21st century, as well as the increase in its international audience and reduction in demographics of age to cater to big corporations and new governments, will happen.
Also a small number of old people in boxing have basically become way less powerful over night because certain people want things like that. New governments and new corporations need consistency of schedule for fights, so do advertisers and major sponsors.
That’s just the way it’s got to be.
No one person will ever control boxing of course but less snake oil salesmen will be in it shortly and it will be a better industry, sport and market worldwide for the sport.
Professional boxing is the top tier of boxing and must do better than what it was doing. Turki Alalshikh has done great so far in what he has done but new people will be helping boxing soon much more powerful and will take things much further.
Boxing must be more aggressive and go much further in its expansion and cutting down the snake oil salesmen within it, which, rest assured, it will.
Boxing will be less like the Wild West that it was before as a sport. Simple as that. The industry needs to be professionalized and corporatized more to get the regularity from large broadcasters and streaming companies to prioritize boxing above other sports.
Professional sport is competitive and the powers that be will do everything to make sure boxing goes back to the big time shown to the masses like it was back in the day.
Boxing is going to new levels and will not be stopped, you have to crack a few eggs to make an omelet and out with the old mentality and in with the new to expand the sport aggressively.
Here’s a quick look at how the UFC might not get involved in promoting boxing.
