The Trap That David Benavidez Must Avoid

David Benavidez is a fierce fighter but he has to be watchful of something in particular as his reign at light-heavyweight begins.

Soon David ‘The Monster’ Benavidez returns to action in the squared circle but he must be careful with some mistakes in his latest bout.

He has that nickname for a reason, the guy is hard to beat and is relentless in his monster-like always come forward all action mentality and fight style.

A marauding style that frequently pushes a pace on his opponents that they can seldom hack.

He simply walks through opponents and flattens them with his power, stamina, heart and determination.

He can box too of course and you don’t become a world champion in multiple divisions without being able to do that.

He is 30-0 and can’t lose sight of his boxing when he needs it as well in the ring at times.

The Trap That David Benavidez Must Avoid

Many fans will remember how one Ricky Hatton of the UK when he won the world title against Kostya Tszyu originally decided to neglect his jab and boxing skills a lot
in that fight and thereafter.

At the time some years ago Hatton realized he had enough power to simply walk through his opponents and run them over.

When he stepped up in elite competition however as time went on against the likes of Mayweather and Pacquiao the power was not enough and he had got used to not using his boxing
ability by this point and relying on his power to win fights, neglecting his defense regularly, as well.

We get the impression David Benavidez is slightly starting to do that and you could see that a bit in the David Morrell fight, he gets tagged too frequently by silly punches at times.

He fights Anthony Yarde on November 22nd and can’t afford to get into that trap against such a big puncher.

As well, if he takes on the likes of elite competition in the division in Artur Beterbiev and Dmitry Bivol at some point this is something he absolutely can’t afford to do.

He is in the 175 pounds division now and its a shark tank compared to his old stomping ground of 168 pounds.

Boxing clever at times is important whilst hitting the power button at the same time.
