Ricky Hatton was larger than boxing and life and so much so the world of professional sport even continues to flood social media with well wishes for Ricky ‘The Hitman’ Hatton.

Hatton passed away at the age of 46 at the weekend.

Before his big fights often times people like Oasis and other celebrities would carry his belts to the ring.

Even famed soccer player Wayne Rooney in the UK did on occasion.

After his death Rooney spoke to BBC Sport and said:

“I carried his belt into the ring for his fight against Castillo in Vegas. I think it is one of the most nervous I had ever been. I remember standing in his dressing room and just hoping he doesn’t lose tonight.”

He went on:

“I think he’s someone who captured the nation really in terms of the support that followed him all around the world in boxing. He’s someone that people loved. He’s someone everyone can relate to. I think so often nowadays you can see any type of celebrity really and a lot of them are not really relatable. Ricky was certainly relatable.”

Rest in peace Ricky Hatton.

Condolences again to his loved ones.
