The fight of the year, the biggest fight in all of boxing, is just around the corner at the moment. It is the big one next month in Bud vs Canelo.
Terence ‘Bud’ Crawford is considered by some to be the best boxer in the world pound for pound at the moment.
Others will say it is in fact Oleksandr Usyk at the moment.
Whoever you think it is, most agree Crawford is near the top.
But when he takes on another pound for pound star in Canelo Alvarez from Mexico in September 13th he is stepping in there with an all time great.
Crawford vs Canelo – A Classic In The Making
Crawford is doing something that another welterweight great, Floyd Mayweather, never even attempted.
The highest Mayweather won world honors as a professional was super welterweight (154 lbs).
Crawford is going up to 168 pounds against Canelo, an entire two weight classes above that.
Moreover, Crawford has struggled with going up in weight before and Alvarez has flattened those that came before him that tried similar.
The UK’s Amir Khan tried moving up in weight some years ago against Alvarez and it ended in knockout defeat at middleweight at the time.
This is a tall order for the man from Omaha known as ‘Bud’.
Then again, greatness is what drives Terence Crawford.
Same for Alvarez.
