The UK after the USA and Mexico has produced more world champions in professional boxing history than any other nation on the planet.
Japan not long after that too as well as the likes of the Philippines and Puerto Rico as well.
It’s association with professional boxing is a great one, it still is and always will be.
But lately things have not been good for the UK at the highest level of professional boxing in terms of world champions.
37 Year UK Boxing Record In Jeopardy
Boxing Kingdom on the X platform astutely notes:
“Nick Ball needs to defeat Sam Goodman on Saturday night to make sure Great Britain’s 37 year record of having a male boxing world champion continues. Britain have had at least one male boxing world champion constantly since 1988. (WBC,WBA,IBF,WBO). Credit [@Teats_]”
A fact that not many might realize.
Making this weekend’s fight even for more to fight for in more ways than one.
The UK however remains one of the big forces in world boxing and will of course remain that way in the time ahead.
Only earlier this year the country put on two huge, outstanding stadium fights for the sport with Chris Eubank Jr vs Conor Benn.
