Mike Tyson is still even today the youngest heavyweight champion that ever lived in boxing history, a record that still stands.
It will take some beating too at 20 years of age when he achieved it.
He was fighting very regularly at the time to get to the title so quick, but fighters in pro boxing don’t fight as frequently anymore.
Mike Tyson’s Issue With Today’s Generation Of Boxers
Speaking on the Big Podcast with Shaq, Mike Tyson said of today’s fighters:
“Listen, my issue with today’s generation is they take too long to fight. I’d fight you now, then next year. By then, I’d have ten fights.”
If you go back before Mike Tyson’s time fighters like Sugar Ray Robinson sometimes were fighting every two weeks even.
The marketing and sports science and health aspects have improved in professional boxing however since those times.
But Tyson is right, there should be a little more frequency of fights happening in general in pro boxing.
More boxing.
More fights.
Simple.
