Joe Calzaghe'S Classic Response To A Not Very Bright Teacher When He Left School To Become A Boxer

Joe Calzaghe from Wales is up there as one of the best boxers to ever come from the UK or Europe in the history of boxing.

Most think him and Lennox Lewis are up there with some others in terms of the UK’s best ever boxers.

But Calzaghe left school very early that not many know, at 16, to become a boxer.

Speaking to First Round TV recently Calzaghe said of one day in the class room with a not very smart former teacher of his:

“They said to me, “Oh, it’s a job. What are you going to do? Leave school?” I replied, “I’m going to be world champion.” She laughed, thinking it was just a job. I repeated, “I’m going to be world champion.”

He certainly did.

Joe Calzaghe was of the best world champions there ever was.

Undefeated and undisputed, retiring at the top of his profession without a scratch on him.

He got out on top at the right time, undefeated and undisputed and sailed into the sunset.

Very few do.
