This weekend was a powerful weekend for New York, boxing and professional sport in America but it was an Englishman who stole the show.
Devout Hamzah Sheeraz like another devout Muslim Naseem Hamed shook New York and the entire world this weekend in New York.
Hamed doing so years ago against Kevin Kelley when he smoked the boots of Kelley on away soil.
This weekend is was the turn of England’s Hamzah Sheeraz who terrorized hometown fighter and heart of a lion Edgar Berlanga.
Decking him twice brutally then taking him out of the equation via knockout in round 5.
On a weekend where Madison Square Garden had a great comeback in New York with Netflix and Katie Taylor, it was the great borough of Queens through an Englishman who stole the show.
An Englishman Became The King Of New York Through Boxing
Sure, Taylor did well, so did Shakur Stevenson beating William Zepeda too this weekend.
Both were amazing fights and moments for not just boxing and sport, but for New York.
But it was England’s Hamzah Sheeraz who stole the show this weekend. He became the King of New York this weekend.
We warned not to dismiss him or write him off before the fight.
He flipped the table and showed what he was all about. He became the first man ever to stop or knock out Edgar Berlanga.
Think about that. Let that sink in.
A shot at Mexico’s numero uno Canelo Alvarez is what is next for him next year now.
Congrats.
Well deserved.
