Carl Froch Brutally Honest On Jake Paul Beating Chavez Jr

Former world super middleweight champion of the world Carl Froch has never been one to mince words and he’s not about to start that now.

His blood and guts fighting in his younger days won him over to fans but as he got older Froch got smarter, more disciplined, more professional hitman-like in his approach to the fight game.

We can see the development in his new punditry too, he is getting more balanced as time goes on – but still very blunt – which suits him – it works in his case – everyone is different.

Speaking on his podcast and show ‘Froch on Fighting’ Froch lashed out at what he saw at the weekend’s main event in boxing between Jake Paul vs Chavez Jr:

“Now, onto Jake Paul vs. Julio César Chávez Jr., son of the legend. I didn’t want to cover this, but I have to. At the press conference, Jake’s manager Nakisa shut down a question about ex-fighters like me criticizing Paul’s skills. Paul sat there, jaw dropped, looking panicked when my name came up. Nakisa deflected, saying, “No Carl Froch questions.” It shows Paul avoids the topic—he knows at 48 (nearing 49), if I landed a shot, it’d be game over. He pretends not to know me. Fast forward 24 hours: Paul fought Chávez Jr., a former champion who hasn’t been elite for years. Allegedly, they couldn’t throw punches for seven or eight rounds, only letting some go in rounds eight and ten. It was too late—he lost on all scorecards by a wide margin, maybe winning the last two or three rounds. I only watched highlights, so let me know if I missed something, but it looked like garbage. Post-fight, Paul name-dropped Canelo, AJ, and Tommy Fury (whom he lost to). Piers Morgan called him out on his channel, and Paul hung up during a live broadcast, unable to handle the truth. Mentioning Canelo or AJ is absurd—he’s trolling for headlines. I think this fight flopped for broadcasters; the Mike Tyson fiasco and allegations of fixed fights (no punching allowed) suggest it’s fading. Paul needs a big name, but after this, I’m done talking about him. He’s not a pro boxer and never will be.”

At the end of the day the card was a huge success with the likes of Holly Holm brining many new UFC and MMA fans to boxing.

Moreover, the fact remains, the Floyd Schofield knockout in the first round of former champion Tevin Farmer was one of the big moments in the sport this year, as well.

No one saw that coming.

Paul needs to be put in with someone dangerous next time however.
