Jake Paul On Dealing With Chavez Jr'S Looping Punches

Chavez Jr didn’t throw that much punches in the fight but when he did he did not seem to really get through with many of them.

If you watch the fight back with the sound off you’ll see Paul parried the shots or blocked most of them.

When they did get through Paul had partially blocked many of them, taking the full sting off the punch.

Speaking after the fight at the press conference Paul said:

“Yeah, I saw he was throwing looping shots, so I kept my hands higher. He was moving to the side, so I moved with him, getting off to an angle. He had a good high guard, blocking the right hook, so I started bringing the uppercut, which landed. Then he had to defend both, and they both started landing. I saw he was weak to the body, kept going there, hurting him all night, and kept the jab going—that was pretty much it.”

Body shots were always going to be something to target for a fighter with so much inactivity as Chavez Jr.

Look the main event was not a barnstormer but Jake Paul did what he had to do.

He got the job done and he beat a former world champion widely on points, showing some technical improvements.

He needs to improve a lot more though in the weeks and months ahead, take a week or two off then back in the gym.

He needs to be thrown into the deep end next time.

After the bout Jake Paul addressed here doping claims and allegations.
