Deontay Wilder surprised some perhaps with his boxing skill at times this weekend in his big comeback win the shores of the sweet science.
Wilder knows the art of professional fighting through and through and when people are trying to talk a bit too nice to him, trying to be too friendly with him, and so on.
Wilder is long in the tooth now and knows the art of mental warfare and real physical warfare in unarmed combat as well as any American walking around the United States today.
But at its core, boxing is a science, where technical acumen often supersedes talent, discipline and ability.
Types of punches and their selection at the right time are important.
One Floyd Mayweather perfected the check left hook years ago and Wilder used it successfully to drop his opponent last night at one point.

Speaking after the fight at the post-fight press conference Wilder said:
“Well, the corner was just telling me the same, just, just stay calm, you know. My head coach wanted to see some body shots come in there. He wanted to see, we were seeing my opponent was, he had a defense shield up in his face. He wanted to come over. I got check hooks, left hooks, and right hooks that I saw in an opening in that I didn’t take, you know.”
But he did make it count at one point early on in round two here with a classic Deontay Wilder check hook.
That really got the ball rolling in a fight dominated behind the jab and with sublime power in his punches towards the end.
