Deontay Wilder Speaks From The Heart After Comeback Win

WBC heavyweight champion of the world Deontay Wilder is one of the great comeback stories so far of the year in boxing.

And maybe in professional sport too, people forget he was America’s champion for years and is one of few in history to defend his heavyweight belt more than ten times.

Now he’s back, Wilder 2.0 and will be much sharper next time as well.

Deontay Wilder Speaks From The Heart After Comeback Win

Speaking after the fight Wilder said:

“Well, I always speak from my heart, you know what I mean. I may have a long message, a short message, but I know that when I speak from my heart, I have the right message that somebody going to, going to collect what I’ve said and apply to their lives and then make their lives better, you know. Um, I can’t reach everyone, you can’t please everyone, there’s too many people in the world to please, you know what I mean. So, whatever being said, whatever I say, and if it applied to you, then take it away, you know.”

Wilder like Tyson Fury and other fighters like Ricky Hatton and others have the hearts of lions.

People like these type of boxers are hugely supported and acclaimed by boxing fans in many countries around the world because of a few things.

They are down to Earth very approachable people and so forth, they are fan favorites, people’s champs if you will.

Same with the likes of Manny Pacquiao, Gatti, Ward, there’s loads.

The problem is these fighters are people too and as members of society need to be protected sometimes from being too brave for their own good.

Amir Khan was another one, too brave, dangerously too brave, that guy would go in there and fight a lion if he was doing it for the right cause.

Obviously Muhammad Ali too, maybe other than Jon Jones, there is only one other man that ever lived in history a better fighter than him and Ali, the best fighter that ever lived that is.

His name escapes us for now…

But back to Wilder – he is 39 now and a new version and in many ways, an improved version of himself.

In the words of Dr. Dre — he’s still the same old g of course — but he’s got more tools in the tool belt and more strings to his bow now.

With respect to Wilder, he must guard his heart in these times too.

It is admirable and so forth he is so genuine but save it for his own people.

Obviously he’s in the public eye as a prize fighter but maybe don’t always give the media everything like he does in all these interviews either.

Again before the fight he was giving his time to absolutely everybody, young fans, old people and everyone got a picture with him.

That’s great but he’s done enough for people over the years, more than most.

Wilder needs to focus on himself and his missus and kids and sure, be fan friendly, but always leave a bit of bread in the fish’ mouth.

Don’t help anyone who didn’t help you Wilder.

He’s wearing his heart on his sleeve too much in some of these interviews.

Get the big fights, knock some people out, get a load of bread, win the world title if the opportunity arises and head onto the next thing and empire.

That’s up to him of course, he can do what he wants at the end of the day.

Alas, us and everyone else in boxing are glad to see he came back.

One of the great American comeback stories so far of 2025, Deontay Wilder.

Hopefully ESPN and Stephen A Smith do some proper features about it in the weeks ahead.

Wilder is big news in America again.

Good for America too.
