Former heavyweight champion of the world Deontay Wilder rolled back the years with a classy performance and then brutal stoppage win in Kansas.
It was a quite brilliant display from the former WBC heavyweight champion who despite all the layoff from boxing, brutal shoulder surgeries, and a change of trainer on fight week, he delivered.
He boxed well and took his opponent out of the equation.
Deontay Wilder Reacts To Winning Comeback By 7th Round TKO
Speaking a short time ago after the big comeback win this weekend Deontay Wilder said at the post-fight press conference:
“My performance? You know, I’m satisfied, but I’m not satisfied. You know what I mean? A lot of people don’t know what I’ve been through. I’ve been through a lot, you know, and my battle has been more so on the outside of the ring than inside the ring. And if anybody knows, having a warrior mentality, you have to be mentally ready, you know. If you’re not mentally ready, then you’re not going to be prepared when it comes to the inside of the ring. You’re going to think about everything that’s going on in your outside world and what’s happening in front of you. And if you’re not focused on the task at hand in front of you, you will get hurt. It ain’t that you can—you will absolutely. And, um, I had to overcome a lot of different things. A lot of people don’t understand. I had a long period of time with a shoulder injury as well. When I’m throwing my right hand, I used to be in a lot of pain, you know. My doc here, he would tell you, I only had 20% of my hand, like, “Boy, why you in the ring?” Like, “Doc, I love this. I got to. I got to see what I’m all about. I got to, you know, I’m always the one that’s pushing myself no matter what. I want to see what type of man I am, you know what I mean? Sometimes I don’t need to be in there, but, you know, when you love this business and you love to do it, you know, because it changed my life three times, I’m looking forward to changing it the fourth time. Um, it makes you just want to get in there and see what you’re all about, you know, with the best in the world. So, you know, only he trained very hard, you know. Um, most of the time when guys prepare for me, they train like their life is on the line because it really is, you know, absolutely, as well as mine as well. I tell everyone that as a fighter, we fight for others, and we risk our lives for others’ entertainment. And that just—that just—that just, you know, bottom line of it, no cutthroats. I don’t like—I like to be straightforward and honest with people. That’s why I say the things I say because I want to be real and want to tell people the severity that this business has to offer. So, you know, um, I enjoyed it, and I’m looking—I’m ready to do it again, you know. We going to get back in the gym as soon as I get back to the house. I’m going right back in. Now, the way I tell people, everyone fails, but fighters have the courage to put it out on the line in front of millions. Amen.”
Congrats to Wilder and respect to his opponent in staying in there that long as well with that big a puncher as Wilder, maximum respect to him.
As for Wilder, big things ahead.
Here is the stoppage win by Wilder on his comeback in case you missed it.
