Deontay Wilder turned back some of the old brilliance in his comeback this weekend in Kansas in a quite excellent fighting display.
A more boxing type of performance that also had brutal power in the fight from him as well.
Wilder got the win by 7th round TKO this weekend after a long lay off, change of trainer and some brutal shoulder surgeries to repair from – a physical condition which would effect anyone’s mental health.
Deontay Wilder On What Next After Winning Comeback
Speaking a short time ago at the post-fight press conference after a brilliant win this weekend in Kansas Deontay Wilder said:
“Next, we, we got a, uh, plan that we had set, um, for this whole year, and we’re going to stick with it, you know. Um, we getting a lot of calls to do this, to have this big fight, to have, you know, when you’re in the heavyweight division, you’re always one fight away from a title fight, you know. And we just want to push it. We want to take our time, just like I did tonight. I took my time, you know, and, uh, we’re going to do it with the return as well, just taking our time, continue to doing what we need to do, um, until we feel like we’re ready, um, to take it back over (the division) again.”
After watching the fight back some technical boxing points to note.
Wilder’s jab was excellent, he used it to find range and measure distance well but it was a good weapon at times to set up attacks.
Notice how Wilder was not as wild with windmill punches in this fight, more convention boxing from Wilder.
Wilder always had some boxing ability you don’t get to the Olympics and receive a bronze medal for America otherwise.
That said, punching has always being his thing.
The fight was scrappy at times and credit to Wilder’s opponent for making it a fight like this.
Wilder even slipped some jabs in the fight showing some reflex and speed.
That said, Wilder will be much faster, sharper and way better timing next time out.
He will be secure with a training camp with a new trainer and will have got off the ring rust in this.
Wilder is not done in terms of having big fights at heavyweight yet.
We said that before hand it the previous response still applies.
