Deontay Wilder makes his comeback fight tonight in the heavyweight division in Kansas after being away from boxing for a bit.
After some time away, some respite and a lot of repair physically after some brutal surgeries, Wilder comes across as in a good place.
He has made changes to his team this week at the last minute but appeared in the best condition of his career at weigh ins.
Deontay Wilder Reveals Amount Of Rounds Sparred For Comeback Fight
He has trained very well for this and speaking to the Boxing News magazine before the fight, Wilder revealed his intense sparring and training:
“The 482 rounds include everything—not just sparring, but all training. That’s actually less than what I’ve done in past camps. It’s been great to accomplish so much and still feel good. My body feels amazing after all that hard work, which is different this time. Usually, by now, I’d be exhausted or stiff, but I’ve focused on recovery and made big changes in this camp.”
He’s training hard but smarter now at the age of 39, Wilder, he doesn’t appear to be done at top flight boxing yet in his mind but we will see.
He has that spartan mindset if he needs to call upon it if a fight goes into the trenches but he comes across as much smarter than before now.
More disciplined, more determined, more able to let that right hand go than he had been in some years, seemingly in his training footage but we will see.
Let’s see what happens tonight.
