One of the world’s leading boxing promoter’s Eddie Hearn is going off at the moment at the WBC (World Boxing Council) over a belt and fight.
Hearn has had contentious issues with governing bodies before, like all promoters though.
Soon boxing legend 46-year-old Manny Pacquiao will challenge for the WBC welterweight title against Mario Barrios on July 19th after a long period out of the rankings.
The WBC have put Pacquiao straight in and elevated him in the rankings to grant him the title shot soon.
Promoter Fuming With Manny Pacquiao Getting WBC World Title Shot At 46
Speaking to IFL TV Eddie Hearn said:
“I’m not going to lie to you, yeah, the reason that Manny Pacquiao has been inserted into the rankings is to make a big fight that will generate sanction fees, and I’m sure give a legend an opportunity to fight for a world title. If it was someone that weren’t going to generate money or no one was interested, it’s because it is Pacquiao that is getting that shot, and it’s a big fight with big sanction fees. Fine, just say that; everyone would respect it much more. This is what the answer should be: yeah, at the end of the day, Pacquiao’s a big name, it’s a big fight, there’s a load of money in it, aka a lot of sanction fees, we’ll put him in the rankings. I get it, it’s the game, I’ll probably do the same, but don’t—don’t try and justify on a—you can’t. He hasn’t boxed for five years. He’s—I don’t even want to disrespect Manny Pacquiao because he’s a lovely fella, so I’m not even going to go into what I think about the fight or his ability, but I’m also, when I get asked these questions, I’m just not going to pussyfoot around it and say something to make Mauricio happy if I don’t agree with it. I can’t do that. I go, oh yes, you know, what do you think about Manny Pacquiao going in the world rankings? Oh yes, you know, I can really see the justification behind that. No, I can’t, I think it’s ridiculous. I’m sorry, and I’d say it to Mauricio (Sulaimán WBC President) to his face, so it’s not like I’m being two-faced. But he called me embarrassing, loudmouth, and I got double standards—big mouth, big mouth. I mean, that’s—that’s strong words from the president of a governing body, but me and Mauricio, some days we get on, some days we don’t.”
Hang on.
Strong words from Hearn and look, listen Hearn, you can’t blame Pacquiao for getting the opportunity.
Of course he’s going to take that opportunity?
Some people do get to skip the line Hearn — and Manny Pacquiao is one of them.
He is a literal living legend and of course he gets to skip the line.
Too bad Hearn, that’s just the way it’s got to be. Suliaman’s ruling stands.
Judge, court ruling and court decision is final on that Hearn, that’s it.
Now cheer up you bloody goon and get back to promoting your own fighters.
The fight is on July 19th in Las Vegas.
Pacquiao will try to become the second oldest boxing champion in world professional boxing history, ‘Pacman’ is training well at the minute.
He’s a big underdog but the fight will be watched by many on the night, rest assured.
Roll on.
