Soon next week only Deontay Wilder will make a comeback to boxing but he’s not very fond of the term comeback in general.
At a time where many in the sport are making comebacks.
He takes a different view on the word.
Why Deontay Wilder Disagrees With The Term ‘Comeback’
Speaking to Tris Dixon on a video conference call with Boxing Scene earlier Wilder said:
“Right, right, it’s just a return. It’s not a comeback. A comeback is when you retire and then return. You feel me? The terminology is always wrong. People always say that when someone has been out of the ring for a significant amount of time and then returns, they think it’s a comeback. But it’s never a comeback—it’s always just returning to the ring. You leave the ring and you return, you know what I mean?”
Like LL Cool J once said years ago in the popular hit song Mama Said Knock You Out:
“Don’t call it a comeback, I’ve been here before.”
Maybe Wilder can relate to that classic song.
He fights again next Friday on June 27th with all eyes on the fight in the heavyweight division.
He is still a big name.
Deontay Wilder in a great place mentally.
If he wants to fight on, he can fight on.
