Nobody really expected Nonito Donaire to come back at 42 to a high level of professional boxing at this age and stage but that he did.
The former fighter of the year and four-weight world champion rolled back the years last weekend. It went very under the radar though and not many noticed it.
Capturing the WBA interim world title at bantamweight in Argentina against Andrés Campos, winning a technical decision after a clash of heads.
42-Year-Old Nonito Donaire Reacts To Shock Comeback And Victory
After the fight ‘The Filipino Flash’ said post-fight:
“I don’t believe in age. I feel great, strong. I am very, very excited.”
Adding:
“I felt good. My speed is there, my power is there. There’s a little bit of rust, but aside from that I did the job.”
A good win and very out of the blew, a great return to boxing for Donaire.
He’s obviously going to pursue the world title shortly and is still a big name with a big fan base.
Maybe he’s shown Filipino Manny Pacquiao ahead of his fight next month with Mario Barrios that age is just a number.
