There has been some unfortunate news for one of the big fights this weekend after a lot of controversy in recent hours at a weigh in.
Newly crowned world champion Keyshawn Davis was due to make the first defense of his world title this weekend.
Although attempts have been made to salvage the fight, as of now, by all accounts, the fight with Denys Berinchyk in Virginia this weekend for the WBO lightweight title is off.
The supporting main event will headline instead.
Ring Magazine on the X platform reported the following:
“According to The Ring’s Keith Idec and Mike Coppinger, the two sides initially agreed to move forward with the fight under a second-day weigh-in limit of 149.5lbs for Keyshawn Davis. Edwin De Los Santos and his team then changed course and decided not to go through with the fight due to safety concerns. The sides were also negotiating a financial penalty for Davis to forfeit a six-figure sum to De Los Santos.”
Look, whatever happened, the fight is off.
De Los Santos’ promoter mentioned they tried to talk the fight back into happening with weight changes, more money and so on but they pulled the talks.
For what he claims was that they think Davis didn’t even try to make the weight, De Los Satos’ promoter said.
Basically that fight is off but the show goes on and there’s still two big world title fights this weekend in boxing – don’t forget.
Abdullah Mason will instead now headline the card tonight.
