Former world champion Shawn Porter is maybe one of the better analysts in the fight game, and gave his break down of a big fight soon.
Porter calls fights well but he gets some stuff wrong as well like anyone, recently his calls on the Keith Thurman fight were way off.
Speaking on his show and podcast – one of the best shows in boxing – ‘The Porter Way’ – former world champion Shawn Porter said of Manny Pacquiao taking on Mario Barrios shortly at the age of 46 shortly:
“And it’s what we say: time is undefeated. Time is undefeated for a reason, for a reason. You know what I mean? So, it’s hard. It’s really hard. Especially when you have a minute to talk to him, and he’s just—the energy is just what it always is. You know what I mean? He’s just a vibrant person. He, um, he could put a smile on your face without being vibrant, though. You know what I mean? Like, without being this extra. Yeah. You know what I mean? And so, I had people asking me yesterday what I thought about that fight specifically. And I’m like, I don’t know. I think in a lot of ways, it’s a 50-50 fight.”
Unlike some who don’t give Pacquiao a chance, Porter giving the fight a fifty-fifty there.
Ultimately Pacquiao will be training very hard and smart too, and getting ready for the Barrios style.
But he will surely be getting rest and days off physically from training to repair in between now and July 19th – that’s key.
Those days he can study tapes and go over game plans with Freddie Roach and his team.
