Manny Pacquiao readies himself for a comeback to the sport at 46 shortly and not just that, he’ll actually fight for the world title as well.
When he takes on Mario Barrios the WBC welterweight champion on July 19th he’ll be a considerable underdog.
Pacquiao Frank On Time Away From Boxing In Recent Years
Speaking to Shawn Porter on the Main Event show, Pacquiao said time away from boxing in recent years has done him well:
“You know, um, when I announced retirement, um, four years ago, I feel like, uh, I’m so sad and was crying, like, uh, you know, um, emotional because of, uh, turning the—the—the passion that you—you grow up. But, uh, later on, it’s good for me because, um, it’s, uh, give my body rest for how many—how many years been in boxing? I started, uh, 12 years old in boxing, and then nonstop, and I able to stop, like, um, I retired four years. So I able to rest my body, and good thing for me because – I always do exercise every day, and I realize that I can still have—I can still have a fight, and I have still have the speed and power, stamina, everything like that, and passion.”
Everyone has a take on Pacquiao vs Barrios, but Pacquiao seems in a great place at the moment mentally.
Very strong.
If he can condition his body for a high pace over twelve rounds while getting plenty of rest days and being smart, never say never.
