World cruiserweight champion Jai Opetaia returns to action this weekend and although not known much outside boxing, he maybe soon.
He is a top notch operator and a world champion that is improving all the time.
Some big fights and continued wins will see him emerge as a star in the time ahead if he keeps improving daily.
However when asked by one reporter this week before his fight this weekend about pound for pound, he didn’t take lightly to it.
Saying to the ‘Jai McAllister: BOXING & MMA’ YouTube channel, and other reporters in a media scrum he said:
“Of course, you know, I’m happy to be on the pound-for-pound list, you know? At the same time, I don’t take too much notice of them, you know, like—I respect that people put me on them, but at the same time, who the hell used to tell me who’s better than me or, you know, who categorizes us? We’re the ones in the ring doing the hard work, and then you sit on your a** chair saying, “Oh, he’s better than him.” So, I don’t give a s*** about those pounders.”
You know, pound for pound boxing rankings are always a bone of contention.
At the end of the day they are just something boxing fans enjoy and are only a mythical list that no one ever agrees on anyway.
They are always a hot topic in the sport, alas.
Opetaia returns to the ring tomorrow – here’s the fight times in many cities worldwide.
