Lennox Lewis On What Ali Used To Do That Fighters Can Still Do Today

Professional boxing has not changed that much really since Muhammad Ali’s days — well — the boxing and training that is.

Sure, the influencers and tech world is different in today’s times but at its core the rhythms, values and timeless things of boxing are still the same.

Speaking on Instagram, Lewis said:

“Focus is underrated. In a world filled with so many distractions, even within the sport itself, it’s easy to lose respect for focusing only on the task at hand. It’s just as important, and as much a challenge as running and training everyday for a big fight. Ali would take himself away from all the distractions of everyday life to go train in a camp so he could remain focused on the task at hand. It’s truly a lost art and undervalued in today’s short attention span, everything for social media mindset many have today. Focus doesn’t begin when you step in the arena, it should begin when you sign the contract. There will be plenty of time for celebration or there will be plenty of time for regret. The choice is yours. Stay focused!”

Surely good advice to any professional fighter out there.

Always be ready for the call to step in to fight.

Like he says the above, that call can come at any time and preparation happens before the contract is signed, always.

Lennox Lewis is considered one of the greatest heavyweights that ever lived.
