Tommy Fury, brother of Tyson Fury, was out of the ring nearly two years until he got the victory last night in Budapest, Hungary.
Tommy Fury has had a whirlwind few years but get back to his bread and butter of professional boxing with a UD win last night.
Speaking to Good Morning Britain before the fight, Fury spoke at length on what boxing meant to him going into the fight:
“Ever since I was small—five, six, seven, eight—all I’ve ever done is box. I’ve never had another job outside of boxing, never done anything else. I’ve always thought and breathed boxing. When you do that for so long and then suddenly you’re in a hospital bed, thinking a year down the line, realizing you’ve never done anything else other than box, you wonder, “What am I going to do to pass the time? How am I going to get through this?” You fall into a dark place. Boxing is everything, and not being able to get out of bed in the morning to do what makes me happy made me think, “I don’t want to do this anymore.” You go down that dark route, and a few weeks turn into a very long time. That has consequences in absolutely everything. Like I said, 2024 was the worst year of my life. But this year is going to be the best year of my life, starting on Friday. I’ve turned it all around. I’m happy mentally now. You have to go through these challenges in life—no one’s life is easy, everyone’s got a hard life. It’s about coming through it, and I’m on the other side now, back doing what I do best.”
Tommy Fury is still a young, developing prospect professional boxer in the heavyweight division.
Because he has fought Jake Paul and others and is a well known celebrity, he brings huge attention to the sport, as well as being the brother of Tyson Fury.
John Fury, father to both Tommy and Tyson, was training Tommy Fury for the fight last night.
