Canelo Triumphant On Cinco De Mayo 2025 Boxing Weekend

A short time ago the Canelo Alvarez vs William Scull fight took place in Saudi Arabia in a super-middleweight unification title bout in the desert.

Alvarez brought the big Cinco De Mayo boxing weekend to Saudi Arabia as the worldwide expansion of the sport continues at this particular time.

Taking on world champion from Cuba William Scull, Alvarez made quite the ring walk and entrance to the fight:

The fight started off a bit cautiously, Scull maybe boxing more risk averse than many wished he would have, maybe feeling some of the snap on Alvarez’ punches early on and going into a defensive shell after.

There was a lot of online criticism, as well, maybe some justified, of the commentary being too heavily biased towards champion Alvarez.

As the bout went on Canelo’s boxing ability showed and was up on most people’s cards by the mid way point.

Most people had Canelo coasting after 7 or 8 rounds. Winning most of if not all rounds.

Canelo ran out a big winner in the end tonight on the cards and won the contest by unanimous points decision.

Alvarez handed Scull his first defeat as a pro and captured the WBO, IBF, WBA and WBC 168 lbs titles at the same time tonight.

Mexican star Canelo Alvarez ultimately showed fighting outside America and Mexico, and on Cinco De Mayo weekend too, was not and was never going to be an issue.

A boxing ring is a boxing ring and like all great fighters Alvarez proved that again tonight.

The victory tonight now sets up a super fight with pound for pound star Terence ‘Bud’ Crawford this September.

Crawford already in a training for the fight for a while now.
