The Canelo Alvarez vs Terence Crawford super fight is now on, confirmed, signed, sealed and delivered, and Joshua has given his thoughts.
Like many in boxing, he as well as most are excited for what promises to be an epic night, and fight, for the sport.
Speaking to Seconds Out, former heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua said of the fight:
“If I’m honest, genuinely, yeah, genuinely, it’s 50/50. Obviously, Canelo is big and strong, but I think that a fighter moving up in weight is always good because they don’t have to make weight. They can be free at the weight, and they’re naturally quicker because they’re a lot lighter. They’re used to fighting smaller guys, so their reactions are a bit better than someone who fights bigger, slower guys. So, it makes it a good fight—strength versus speed. Canelo, a two-time undisputed champion, and I think Crawford is an undisputed champion. Both are talented. It’s not like a 60/40 or a 70/30—it’s 50/50 in my opinion.”
Many will agree but some will disagree too, Crawford is moving up a lot on weight.
One thing to consider though was Canelo Alvarez looked far from his best this weekend against William Scull.
Something that may give Crawford slightly more of a chance to some now, perhaps.
The bout takes place on September 12th at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas and will be promoted by Turki Alalshikh and Dana White as part of their first TKO Boxing event.
