Rolly Romero fights Ryan Garcia in a huge fight tomorrow at Times Square in New York in a fight for the ages but he has taken it back a step here.
To let people know where it all began for him in boxing — before he takes on boxing star Ryan Garcia.
It could have nearly being judo wrestling as it happens, speaking to Mike Coppinger of Ring Magazine’s shoulder program ‘Unboxed’, Romero said of his start:
“My dad always wanted me to box. We were watching the 2012 Olympics for judo, and boxing came on. I said, “Man, I’d beat these guys up. They’re scared, just touching each other, fighting like little girls.” My dad said, “You’re scared. You wouldn’t do it.” The next day, he took me to the gym. I put on gloves, sparred a kid who’d won a national title, and broke his nose with a wild swing. The next day, I broke another kid’s nose. My dad said, “What the hell?” He told me to punch him as hard as I could, promising not to hit back. I did, and he realized I was a puncher. He’d had me and my sister do mitts as kids, but I’d just tap them, so he never knew how hard I hit.”
Good stuff.
As the old saying goes, its not where you start out in life but where you end up that counts, as we are here for a good time not a long time.
Romero is in a good place in boxing and life ahead of the biggest night of his life tomorrow against Ryan Garcia.
There is going to be a shed load of hand speed in this one, two very aggressive fighters as well.
Carnage awaits.
