Chris Eubank Jr beat Conor Benn but he and his father were in an ambulance and at hospital after it, his boxing legend father has given his side.
On what happened that is — straight after the fight last weekend when his son got the unanimous points decision over Conor Benn.
Speaking on his own channel called ‘Call Chris Eubank’ this week, senior opened up from his side on what happened after the fight at hospital:
“Yes, Junior went straight to the hospital. We were in the ambulance—sirens blaring, horns beeping, complete chaos. My son, Junior, is very proud. His face looked like a blown-up football, almost twice its normal size, but he’d never let you see that because of his pride. It took me back years, thinking about what Michael Watson went through. I was feeling, seeing, and hearing all of that, saying to myself, “People don’t know, but my son is touch-and-go.” The only way we’d know if he’d be okay was after the CT scans. He suffered mostly from dehydration, though the beating was severe. That’s why he was in such discomfort for 24 to 30 hours. You know how many times I welled up? How many times I trembled? At 35 years old, for him to be semi-conscious, coming back down to 160 pounds, and battered—just like his opponent, Conor Benn. He arrived at the hospital around 2:00 a.m. When I saw him, I broke down. He was on the bed, his legs bent awkwardly, and I couldn’t tell if he was awake. As I got closer, I said, “You okay?” He replied, “Yeah, I’m okay, I’m okay.”
That is serious enough but good to know he is doing well.
That shows you the sheer weight cut that Chris Eubank Jr put himself through for the fight.
It will be interesting if the rematch doesn’t happen what weight will Chris Eubank Jr look to box at.
Surely the rematch will happen though, it is a much bigger fight now.
If the rematch does happen, likely it will be at 160 pounds again.
