Boxing is a sport thriving at the moment worldwide but the near future is even much brighter, so the new Boxing World Cup concept is in good company.
Boxing has always deserved its own World Cup and now it has its own, well, its actually called the Boxing Grand Prix run by the WBC which started recently for the first time in 2025, and will continue again in June.
WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman spoke on the tournament on Instagram with a picture of his father above holding the first trophy:
“Boxing always was the sport of my life and with all the rules we made for the protection of the boxers, I knew there was a lot more to do. With the idea of looking after our fighters in all stages of their lives, before, during and after their years of glory, I felt the need to start looking for young talent and give the fighters with a few professional matches, the opportunity to showcase their skills on a world platform and in this way, discover the amazing up and coming talent in our sport.
The Boxing World Cup was the name of the tournament that I envisioned to do this, unfortunately at the time, we could not put together the talent and resources to organize the tournament. Today, and with the leadership of Mauricio, the First Boxing Grand Prix was held with unbelievable success.
This is the trophy designed for the original tournament presented at the WBC Convention in Cancun, 2012.”
Respect and good times ahead.
The next instalment should be good and hopefully a little more is shown on social media about the boxers involved, their stories and the fight updates themselves when the tournament is on from DAZN.
