Chris Eubank Jr missing weight today has caused a stir in boxing ahead of his big fight with Conor Benn in a sell-out stadium event in the UK.
Eubank Jr tried to make weight twice today but missed it both times, by a fraction on the second attempt. He will try to make weight again in the morning.
Promoter of Conor Benn, Eddie Hearn, spoke to IFL TV a short time ago and said of Eubank in general this week:
“As for Chris Eubank Jr. on stage yesterday, it’s the same as before. I took the play away from him. Everything he does is premeditated. He’s got people telling him what to say, creating content. He’s playing it well, but some don’t see it’s all planned. Before I spoke, I saw him on his phone, checking notes—probably instructions like, “When Eddie speaks, say this.” So, I thought, I’ll disrupt him. I said, “Let’s bring up scumbag number two, Frank Smith.” That threw him off. He had no prepared response, so he just repeated, “Frank, you can’t speak.” He tried mentioning the bet, but it was off-script.”
Interesting analysis from Hearn, maybe, maybe not though in terms of the above.
Eubank Jr seemed calm enough as did Benn.
Benn now has an advantage as Eubank Jr is killing himself to make weight again in the morning.
Then has to be only 170lbs by fight time tomorrow night around 10pm local UK time.
