Irish Steve Collins beat both fighters’ competing this weekend’s legendary fathers not just once — but twice each by himself.
Many forget that and how much of an all-time great Collins is because of that and that alone.
Speaking ahead of the fight to Duke McKensie on Talk Sport, Collins said of the two sons fighting this weekend:
“I think the advantage goes to Conor because I’d rather gain 10 pounds than lose 10 pounds. Gaining weight makes you 10 pounds stronger, not weaker. At a heavier weight, you’re stronger, so I think the advantage is probably with Conor gaining weight. He doesn’t have to dehydrate and lose strength, whereas Eubank Jr. will lose strength coming down. It’s hard for him to maintain strength and stamina while dropping weight.”
He added:
“The rehydration clause gives an advantage to Conor Benn, but I don’t think it’s healthy. If Eubank’s the bigger man, let him be strong. Dehydration is when a fighter can get hurt. If Chris Eubank loses 10 or 15 pounds of fluid to make weight, he won’t fully rehydrate to his natural strength. They should waive the rehydration rule and let them fight at whatever weight they want. I don’t understand why they’ve done it. It’s an advantage for Conor, but it could also be a risk to Eubank.”
Eubank Jr has based Benn’s team as snakes in the build-up but they appear to be very united and focused it must be said.
Both fighters are well up for the fight this weekend.
Roll on.
