The dust has really settled now on the Usyk vs Tyson Fury 2 fight in Saudi Arabia with the world having had its say now.
An event that did well for the sport, again, overall.
Usyk won the main event on 116-112 scorecards by unanimous decision.
Speaking with Mario Lopez on the 3 Knockdown Rule US boxing analyst Steve Kim said:
“He (Fury) did not have that leverage to shove around the smaller man (in Usyk).”
He added:
“The other thing is Usyk’s mental toughness and his clutch genius, if there is such a thing, or if there is any fighter that has it, it’s him. Because in round 5 I thought it was the roughest one for him and I thought here comes to mid right run that we saw back in May. Immediately Usyk took control of 6, 7 and 8. Look, Usyk will never be a great puncher and he’s a natural cruiserweight. But like Evander Holyfield there is a familiar arc, after about 6 or 7 fights, they became heavyweights. He’s no longer just a blown up cruiserweight. I don’t think Usyk is a great puncher by heavyweight standards, however he knocked out Dubois, he shook Joshua numerous times and he scored a knockdown in the last fight (first one) against Fury so you can now say, he’s a legitimate big man.”

Some suggesting if Usyk goes back down to cruiserweight a mega fight with Beterbiev would be a good fight.
It doesn’t make sense though to go back to cruiserweight though after moving up to heavyweight.
