In some remarkable news it has emerged Vladimir Klitschko was very close to a comeback to the sport.
As he nears 50 years of age he would have beaten by some margin George Foreman’s record of 45 of oldest heavyweight champion ever.
If he had won this proposed fight per Michael Benson on X:
“Wladimir Klitschko has reportedly been in talks to potentially return to the ring and challenge Daniel Dubois for his IBF heavyweight world title next, but this idea has now been abandoned. 48-year-old would have broken George Foreman’s record as oldest heavyweight world champion had he taken the fight and won. [According to @MailSport]”
What an idea to think of given all the years he has been retired now.
Surely a wise decision to stay retired from the sport.
In general boxing is a young man’s game and the oldest world champion in history Bernard ‘The Alien’ Hopkins winning the light-heavyweight title at 46 years, 4 months and 6 days old on May 21 2021 in Canada, beating Jean Pascal by unanimous decision, will never be done again.
Never. Ever.
There is a reason Hopkins is called ‘The Alien’ — nothing compares to him.
He is completely unique.
No professional boxer will ever win a world title older then what he did above.
Wise move by Klitschko. Kudos.
